Factory just the job for youth
A FACTORY of a different kind will be officially opened in Limerick today by Mayor Cllr Kevin Kiely and rugby star Keith Earls. The Southside Youth Space known as The Factory, is based in the Old Fulflex building on the Galvone Road.
It will cater for people aged 10 to 21 and allow them spend free time in a range of activities ranging from creative arts, sports and education pursuits.
The centre is a key component of the Limerick Regeneration Agency's Programme for the social inclusion of young people through personal, social, sporting and recreational programmes.
Mr Kiely said: "The eagerly awaited Youth Space is a new and exciting space for young people living on the Southside of Limerick City and beyond and is demonstrative of the hard work and dedication of the all those involved and committed to The Factory. It has been made a reality by the partnerships developed between Limerick Regeneration Agency, Limerick Youth Service and Young Persons Probation and their funded projects.
Facilities include two indoor pitches which can be used for soccer, badminton, basketball and Olympic hockey; a dance studio, PC suite, meeting rooms and a permanent rehearsal space where music equipment will be available, in addition to a small art room.
A significant feature of the space is the Southside Youth Cafe, which will be run by the young people using The Factory.
